Kalkin (Apache County Shifters Book 1) by TL Reeve and Michele Ryan

Keeley Blueriver is not doing a very good job hiding out. After being viciously attacked, she and her sister Danielle pack up and move across the country to Window Rock, Arizona. But Simon found them before, and he’ll do it again. How and when are the only questions.

Kalkin Raferty, Alpha of the Raferty pack, has spent his life protecting his family and pack from outside threats. He believes his time for finding a mate has passed. Who would want an old Alpha wolf?

A chance meeting puts Kalkin face to face with his destiny and now he can’t get the blonde-haired, hazel-eyed woman out of his mind. His wolf is poised to claim her, but with danger lurking around every corner, is he willing to risk everything to have her?

Kalkin is the first book in authors TL Reeve and Michele Ryan’s series Apache County Shifters. There are the Raferty brothers, a nephew, and possibly other characters that these ladies can write this series on, but we start with the sexy and dominant Alpha of the bunch, Kalkin Raferty. He’s the Alpha of his pack, a wolf shifter, and the sheriff in town. One day, across the creek from his property, two blonde sisters move in. Keeley and Danielle Blueriver, and from the looks of their bruises, he knows something is up.

Dani and Keeley are on the run from Simon, a man who hurt the two of them because they are something more than human. And despite her attraction to the big sexy sheriff, Keeley has made a vow along with her sister to stay away from everyone, especially men, to protect themselves. But it’s not too long before Caleb is calling on Dani for help, and Kalkin soon follows. Kalkin wants Keeley for his mate, but can he protect her from the evil coming their way?

This was an enjoyable series starter, and I learned a whole new way of wolf mating. (see knots.) My only little gripe, and I have it for a lot of shifter books, is the need to get every mated female pregnant right off the bat. Doesn’t anyone use protection anymore?

“Where the fuck is the baby?” He kept his voice controlled, knowing the pup was safe and sound with Danielle—for now. Kal tried in vain to keep his voice down so their neighbors couldn’t overhear their conversation. As it stood, he still wasn’t sure how he felt about Keeley. Well, he did, but acknowledging the mating and participating in it were two totally different things. Right now, they didn’t need any extra headaches. However, he had a sneaky suspicion he was in over his head and he was too stupid, or ignorant, to admit it.
“He’s with Danielle.” Caden shrugged, moving around his brother. “The boy was in his pup form when I got him. I couldn’t take him to a hospital and you know if I took him to a vet—which there isn’t one in a twenty-mile radius—they would have freaked out if he spontaneously shifted. So, I brought him back here.”
“You don’t think the girl will freak the fuck out when he spontaneously shifts, Caden?” Kal couldn’t believe what his brother said.
“No,” he answered plainly.
“No?” Kalkin snorted. “I have got to hear this explanation. Come on, lay it on me. Tell me, ‘oh smart one,’ why she won’t freak the fuck out when the baby shifts.”
“She’s not normal either.” A slow small crossed his brother’s lips. “She got this…thing. I promised I wouldn’t tell anyone about it, but bro. She’s special.”
“Great. Fan-fucking-tastic. So, she could have a serious case of gas, but she’s special.” Wow, he knew his brother could be stupid sometimes, but this was a colossal fuck up. It ranked right up there with the time they were sixteen and Caden decided he was going to pull the tail of a cat shifter. The asshole ended up in bed for a week with tiger claw slashes to his side.
“I’m being serious, asshole,” Caden snapped, going nose to nose with his brother. “She helped the pup more in five minutes than a hospital could in two fucking weeks. I promised her I wouldn’t say what it was, but I felt her. She did something to him and he was a different pup when he woke up.”
Kalkin blinked, taking in everything his brother said. A part of him wanted to believe his brother and another part of him wanted to continue to chew his ass. He also realized he should be more concerned with the pup. Kal blew out a breath and scrubbed his hand across his brow. “How bad?”
“Two broken legs and some bites. Danielle thinks he’ll be fine. She wrapped the wounds and set his back legs.” He chuckled a bit. “Aiden ate up the attention when I checked on them after Mrs. Martin hooked me up with some breast milk for the boy.” Caden turned serious for a moment. “I don’t know why Tiffany had fucking pups. She couldn’t even take care of herself when we were younger. Then she goes off and gets fucking pregnant. The bitch tried to kill him!” Kalkin watched his brother pace. “Aiden is now parentless. Why? Because she doesn’t have enough fucking sense to bring all the pups to her Alpha.”
Wait. “There are more?” He couldn’t believe Caden would take one and leave the others. “Why did you leave them?”
“Aiden is the only one who survived.”
“Fuck.” He’d have to deal with this sooner rather than later. “Do we know the father?”
Caden snorted. “If I had to guess? Someone in the Quincy pack. The kid smelled of piss and shit, though, so I couldn’t be sure.”
“Shit. Not what we need right now, but because you went off half-cocked, you brought shit down on our new neighbors.” Kalkin couldn’t even be angry anymore. He understood Caden’s need to protect the baby. However, it couldn’t be at the expense of two women who’d been through their own shit. “What are you going to do when Aiden shifts and is a baby?”
“Well, I had been thinking about it when you pulled up to house like Billy Bad Ass. I’m going to tell her what we are.”
What? “Are you fucking kidding me?” He couldn’t believe what his brother was saying. “Why?”
“Tell me you aren’t planning to do the same.” Caden’s blue eyes swirled with intent. “Tell me you weren’t going to have Keeley run with you during the full moon.” His brother had him. He had been contemplating revealing himself during the first day of the summer festival.
“Shit,” he said, blowing out a frustrated breath. “This is all FUBAR.” Fucked up beyond all recognition.
“Tell me about it.”
“You’re part of the reason, asshole.” He turned away from his brother and caught his neighbor staring at him. “Great.”
“What?” His brother stepped over to where he was standing. “Ah, shit.” There, peeking out of their window, stood Keeley, Danielle, and a very happy little boy. Shit, maybe his brother had been right.
“Yeah, great fucking work, asshole. I’m betting they saw and heard everything. So much for having to explain it to them.”
“Hold on. You’re assuming they heard anything. They’re completely human. They couldn’t hear a flea fart.”
“I thought you said Danielle is special.” Kal cocked a brow. “Or were you blowing smoke up my ass about her?”
“She is. I can assure you what I experienced when she started working with Aiden,” Caden paused. “Shit, bro. It was amazing.”
“Are you sure she was touching the pup?” he quipped.
“Yes, dickhead. It wasn’t sexual at all, but it had been amazing nonetheless.” Caden’s blue gaze locked with Kal’s and his demeanor turned serious. “She’s my mate.”
Of all the fucking things he expected his brother to say, finding his mate hadn’t been one of them. “Shit. Are you sure?”
“Oh yeah.”

Prince Charming By CD Reiss

SBPR-BT-BANNER copy.jpg

Prince Charming an all-new sexy standalone from New York Times bestselling author CD Reiss is available NOW.

prince-charming-cover

Synopsis:

Keaton Bridge is one hundred percent bad boy.

Cassie doesn’t need a boy and certainly not a bad one. Nope. She fights crime for a living, and everything about this guy screams trouble, from his charming British accent to his mysterious past.

And Cassie doesn’t do trouble.

Keaton’s got his own trouble. He’s trying to go legit, and an FBI agent hanging around is the last thing that will help his credibility.

All it took was one night of passion to sear her into his skin. Now he can’t imagine living happily ever after without her.

All they have to do is walk away.

But neither of them ever walks away from a challenge.

Excerpt:

The list of crimes that happen on the dark net bounce through my brain as he holds me. Is he going to kill me? Strangle me right here in the parking lot of his own factory? Maybe he wants to try. He’s well-built but I’m pretty sure I can take a computer nerd in hand to hand combat. I just can’t let him get the jump.

He goes for me.

I’m surprised and prepared for it at the same time. I didn’t actually believe he’d try, but I’m reaching to block an attack while he’s leading with his head, which is weird, but I got this.

When his lips smash against mine my body is a split second ahead of my brain. It’s processed the list of dark net violence and thus completes a series of moves to bring down a frontal attack.

Even as I’m using his weight against him by holding his arm still while I swing him, letting his high center of gravity do all the work of stripping him of his balance, my mind processes the kiss. Because it was a kiss. A real soft-lipped-slightly-open-mouthed-I want-her-to-like-it kind of kiss.

By the time those nice thoughts register I’m slamming him up against the car. I’m a little disappointed that I can’t take back my counterattack. I would have let him kiss me a few more seconds before taking him down.

His eyes are open wide and the breath’s knocked out of him. The thump of his body against the car door fades into the night.

“Why did you do that?” I ask.

He looks at me as if I asked him why he pees standing up. Brows knotted. Arms out. Mouth half open as if he can’t contain the sheer number of answers he could give me right now.

“What?” He says it like whot and it’s endearing and haughty at the same time. Damnit. I should have taken that kiss and not gotten all black belt on him.

“Don’t sneak up on a girl like that.” I sound like a brat.

He straightens himself out, pulling his cuffs down and realigning his jacket.

“I’m going to pretend you didn’t just do a very impressive judo throw and tell you, out front, that I am going to kiss you. First, I am going to put my hands on your face, because I would like to feel your mouth move when I do it. Then I’m going to tilt my head to the right, so please, you should also tilt your head to the right.” He waits for me to nod, and when I do, he comes close to me and lowers his voice. “I’m going to wait a second once our lips touch, just to make sure we’re both appreciating this first contact. When I open my mouth a little, I want you to do the same. You need to accept my tongue in your mouth.” He puts his hands on my shoulders. “Is that enough of a warning?”

“What happens after that?”

“It’s unwritten.”

He moves his hands up to my jaw, laying his thumbs against my cheeks. He strokes them and I lean forward.

He kisses me just like he said he would. His tongue tastes like ice water, and his lips curve into the shape of mine. The adrenaline in my veins blends with something newer and warmer. He slides one hand back and tugs my hair which sends fluids and sensation and pleasure and all my attention between my legs. I push against him just so I can feel him resist. I need to fight him hard as I want him.

He’s rigid and yielding all at once, turning us around until I’m the one with my back against the car. I shove him away and he separates from me with a sharp intake of breath.

He doesn’t say a word, still holding me by a fistful of hair. The cold clouds of our breath mingle between us. He’s a predator, a criminal, and a mistake. But his jaw is tight and his nostrils flare when he breathes. He’s all those things and a bull charging for the red cape.

“Push me away again,” he says, finally, “and we’re done here. And I know for a fact that’s not what you want.”

I am the red cape, and I need to be yanked away as much as I need him to charge at me again and again.

“When I want you to stop I’ll say so.”

I shove him again, and he smiles before laying a kiss on me. It’s not a kiss I fight. It’s a kiss I want. He pauses, pulling his mouth away as if giving me a second to tell him to stop, but I don’t. I don’t start pushing against him until our mouths are locked again. His hips grind into me. I feel his erection through our clothes.

I’m clutching his coat without any sense. I want to tear away every stitch of fabric. I push and pull with equal ferocity. I want to spread my legs but my coat’s too long. I want to punch him. I want that hard dick stretching me and I want it to hurt. My mind is wiped clean of everything but need. I don’t have a job or a career. I don’t have dreams built from childhood. I don’t have a name. I’m just a pillar of desire. I’m reduced to movement and hunger. I want his body inside mine. Nothing else.

About the Author

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up she’s at the well hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

She’s frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn’t ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

Saved By Her Vampires by Doris O’Connor

savedvamp

Everyone knows that happily ever afters only happen in fairy tales. Real life is cruel and painful. Bianca may fantasize about the two hunks in the shadows, but that doesn’t mean they’ll ever notice her. Men as sinfully sexy as the two brothers won’t want a crippled redhead like her.

The New Year has always been a painful reminder for Bianca. She helps out at the annual orphanage’s fancy dress fundraiser to help chase away her demons—until it’s time to leave.

When Sister Maria insists that Bernhard and Archie escort Bianca home, the events that follow change her life forever. The hottest sex she’s ever had cannot account for the changes Bianca sees in the mirror. Vampires aren’t real, right?

Be Warned: menage sex (MFM), double penetration, anal sex

Doris O’Connor’s Saved By Her Vampires is a novella that is packed with sexy vampire menage goodness. I’ll admit that she’s one of those authors that I have to read her books as soon as they hit the shelf, and this book was no different. I was hooked from word one and couldn’t put my e-reader down until I was finished, it was THAT awesome!

Bianca is a woman who lives in constant pain thanks to a car accident she had when she was a child. She wears a leg brace and wakes up daily to the debilitating pain, but it doesn’t stop her from working with the children of the orphanage all day long. Sister Maria, the nun who runs the orphanage, insists one night that she have one of the men that help with the children walk her home. Bernhard is a tall, blonde, blue-eyed hunk. He also has a brother Archie, who is tall, dark-haired, and equally hot. They both walk her home, and after asking to be invited in, start their seduction. What follows is enough to make you need the air conditioning on because it’s so hot! And those love bites? Well, they are a bit sharp.

You’ll definitely want to keep the ice bucket around for this one because it’s just so, so, steamy!

Archie’s hands dug into her bad leg, and she couldn’t help her flinch of pain.

“I’m sorry. How much does it hurt?” Archie asked.

“It’s not too bad. The fog doesn’t help.”

“Neither does running yourself ragged helping out at the orphanage.” Bernhard sounded almost angry, and she shrank away from the intense expression on his face.

“I do not run myself ragged, and besides, I love those kids. They have no one. I know only too well what that feels like.” Her voice was far too wobbly, and Bianca resolutely blinked the last few tears lingering on her eyelashes away. She didn’t want the brothers’ pity, damn it.

Not that the hungry way their gazes devoured her spoke of pity right now. Her flesh heated under their quiet regard. Her breath hitched, her heart galloped, and she sat like a rabbit caught in the headlights of an oncoming car, waiting for their next move.

An unspoken communication seemed to be going on between the two men, and Bianca melted a little inside when Bernhard smiled again. Oh, he really looked good enough to eat when he smiled.

“You have us now, my pretty.”

“Yes, little one.”

She turned her head to see Archie looking at her with the same steely determination that she’d seen in his brother’s face.

“You don’t have to sweet talk me, you know. I’m a safe bet.”

Archie laughed, and Bernhard swore.

“Are you now, little one? Well, in that case it would be most ungentlemanly of us to keep the lady waiting, would it not, Bernhard?”

“No one has ever accused us of not acting like gentlemen, brother, that’s for sure, but we should take this to the bedroom.” He rose as he spoke, and then it was Archie’s turn to scoop her up as though she weighed less than a feather. She clung to his shoulders, only letting go long enough to point in the direction of her bedroom when Bernhard asked where it was. He led the way, and Archie followed. Every step pitched the butterflies in her stomach into a frenzied orgy of excitement. By the time Archie lowered her onto the well-loved bedspread covering her bed, she was shivering in anticipation.

Bernhard claimed her mouth in a breathtaking kiss, and Archie trailed open-mouthed kisses along her leg. He nipped a path along the jagged scars with his teeth. His kisses left a delicious tingle in their wake that completely obliterated any leftover pains in that leg. Bernhard took the kiss deeper. He drank from her mouth as though it was the sweetest nectar. Their tongues dueled together in an ever more passionate dance, whilst his hands roamed her body and slowly pulled the dress off her shoulders until her breasts were exposed in their lacy bra. He broke the kiss and ran his knuckles over her nipples. Hard little nubs of sensitivity, they chafed against their confines, and Bianca moaned when Archie reached up and pulled down the bra cups.

“Beautiful.” His breath danced across her quivering abdomen, and she arched her spine. Bernhard took a nipple between his teeth and bit down gently. The sensation shot straight to her clit, and Bianca thrust her hips up at Archie in a silent plea. He smiled, and, reading her correctly, he slid the dress further off her body until she was just in her thong. He blew across the wet fabric barely covering her mound, and Bianca bucked as her clit swelled in response. She moaned and panted her arousal. The needy sounds coming from her seemed alien to her. Who was this person begging for them to take her, to not stop, to please, please fuck her?

Bernhard released her nipples with one last gentle scrape of his teeth and worked his way back up to her mouth. He caught her scream of surprise in his kiss as Archie pulled her thong off and latched onto that swollen bundle of nerves between her thighs. He pushed two fingers deep into her channel at the same time and curled them just right to have her climbing the rungs of sexual bliss in seconds. Bernhard’s tongue in her mouth mirrored Archie’s thrusting fingers, and Bianca gave herself up to the ever-increasing spirals of bliss traveling from her pussy outwards. Just as she hovered on the precipice of her orgasm Archie bit down on her clit, and Bianca screamed at the sharp pain. Pain that changed to white-hot shards of arousal rushing through her veins as Archie started to suck. She was dimly aware of Bernhard’s muttered curse in her ear, followed by another sharp pain to her neck that sent her tumbling into wave after wave of the most intense set of orgasms ever.

Acquired Possession (Machinery of Desire 1) by Cari Silverwood

Cari1

The night Emery is taken she is reading emails in bed.
Aerthe, another world, the world of the Swathe, the moving cities of the Mekkers.

Blind on arrival and naked. No one touches her until the Mekkers decide humans aren’t people, and therefore can be bought and traded. The journey through the portal alters humans, shines them all pretty. Humans glimmer.

Emery’s bright hair and nails will forever mark her as alien. Her freedom is gone. Though her sight returns, she becomes a possession of House Oren.

But someone else wants to own her, the House Master, Mako, a man who uses whips and canes like most people use a knife – daily, with efficiency and casualness.

She vows to never give in.

Banned from marrying. Banned from having played too intimately with the house possessions, Mako holds himself back.
He mustn’t. Shouldn’t. His job is to punish, to control, to keep the House in order.

But when Emery runs and takes with her a most dangerous war machine, one not seen since the Last Days of the War… Mako is the man they turn to.

To chase her down. To bring her back, lamed, dead, or mostly alive.

If you like your sci-fi romance dark and twisted, the Acquired Possession is the book for you! Cari Silverwood is the queen of dark romance, and this book just proves it. The first book in the Machinery of Desire series will make you shiver in delicious, dark, erotic delight!

Our heroine Emery finds herself transported to Aerthe, and there she meets Mako, a man as mean and cruel as the shark he’s named after. She’s made his slave by proclamation from the king, and when she mouths off to him, she ends up with a very public and painful humiliating punishment. Emery reminds Mako of his dead girlfriend Shea, which angers him. He plans to break her, and he certainly tries very hard to do so. But Emery is a strong woman, even when they take her blood for the life-giving benefits for Mako’s people, a couple of brutal punishments by Mako’s boss and the king, and by Mako himself.

There are some truly cringe-worthy scenes in this book, but that to me is the sign of a great dark romance. The ones where I definitely need to read a few sappy romances in between. Cari just delivers the goods as usual!

About THE HAIL YOU SAY

Get out!
He yelled those words at the love of his life twelve years ago, and to this day, Reed Hail regrets them. He’s always been the type of person to speak before he thinks, and apologies have never come easy.
It’s been over a decade since she was his, and he stubbornly thinks that he can keep on living without her.
He couldn’t be more wrong.
The last thing he needs is her vagina anywhere near his exam table. But nobody ever asks him what he wants.
Maybe he should’ve gone into the auto-recovery business after all.
I hate you.
Krisney Shaw would take those words back in a heartbeat if she could. In fact, she would take back everything.
Never meeting him would be the perfect place to start. The memory of Reed Hail haunts her—morning, noon, and night.
Then, to add insult to injury, she has to see him being happy while she’s breaking a little more inside every single day.
Reed Hail is her worst nightmare because she’s constantly reminded of exactly what she’s missing—the other half of her soul.
Just when she thinks things can’t get worse, she’s sees his sexy, bearded face over the top of her paper gown, and she’s lost all over again.
Don’t ever let me go.
Both Reed and Krisney are determined to avoid each other. They do a great job of it, too…not.
One ill-timed gynecological exam changes everything. One single second in time shows Reed what he’s missing—literally and figuratively—and suddenly he’s back at square one.
The only problem with being back at square one? He won’t be able to leave her a second time.
Especially since the first time around he didn’t have a child with her to consider.

Lani Lynn Vail’s amazing Hail Raisers continues with Reed Hail’s book in The Hail You Say. I have to admit that so far, this is my favorite book in the series, and I didn’t think it would be. (Though imagining cover model Stuart Reardon as Reed the whole time helped a whole lot too!)

Reed and Kresney are high school sweethearts, but a horrific tragedy ends up tearing them apart. 12 years later, Reed is an Ob-Gyn and Kresney is stationed overseas in Germany when she goes for her scheduled appointment. Reed turns out to be her doctor, and Kresney has the most x rated appointment ever! (so good!)

But Kresney ends up seeing Reed again four months later when she shows up at his office with symptoms, and it turns out she’s pregnant! Reed tries his best to stay away from Kresney, but fails. And she’s determined to do the same. But someone doesn’t want them together at all, and may just succeed at separating them permanently.

I really enjoyed this book. Despite the fact, there was a pregnancy in it, and I usually don’t like reading baby themed books, I loved this one, and I’m really looking forward to Dante’s book!

Excerpt

Routine. Just routine.
Yeah, right.
I knew this was going to be bad. I knew that I was about to do one of the stupidest things in the world.
Yet, that didn’t stop me from entering the infirmary.
Every year we were required to see the doctor for an annual health evaluation. Mine was due two months ago, and I’d purposefully gotten out of it.
I’d tried to get out of this one, too. However, my superior looked at me, grinned that evil grin of hers, and told me in no uncertain terms if I didn’t do it, I’d be relegated to desk duty for the foreseeable future.
She knew I hated desk duty.
Talking to people wasn’t my forte.
And now I was here.
Going into the one place that I knew I shouldn’t be going.
The clinic in town was normally off limits.
The clinic near the base had an older than dirt male doctor that I was fairly sure was a pervert who kept working because he didn’t get to see pussy that young anymore.
However, knowing that the old doc was off on the weekends, and Reed volunteered there for all the ladies that didn’t want to risk it with the pervert doc, led me to where I was today.
Where I knew he was.
Shit. Damn. Fuck.
I’d gone to Germany to get away from him. He’d been assigned to the same base within a month of my arrival.
It might’ve been a coincidence, but I knew it probably wasn’t.
He did it on purpose. Just to watch me squirm.
I swung open the glass door, waved at the secretary who I knew but whose name I couldn’t remember, and signed in.
“He’s running about thirty minutes behind,” the secretary said as she took my information. “I’ll tell the ladies that you’re here, though. You can go on back. The nurse will put you in a room.”
Of course he was, because the motherfucker liked to talk.
Fucker.
Asshole.
I walked back, met the nurse, and she guided me into a room.
“Here’s the paper gown. You can go ahead and change here behind the screen.” The nurse smiled. “The part goes in the front.”
I refrained from flipping her off.
I knew which fucking part went in the front. I wasn’t a dumbass.
“Thanks,” I muttered.
I waited until she was completely out of the room before I changed, making sure the screen was completely covering every square inch of my body before I stripped my shirt off.
My pants went next, then my bra, and my underwear.
After slipping on the stupid gown—part in front—I folded the clothes precisely in on themselves, making sure that my underwear and bra were neatly tucked into my shirt before rolling my pants around the shirt.
I did not want him to see my underthings.
No sir-ree.
He was already going to see my breasts and vagina today. I didn’t want him to see that I wore the sexy underthings for some stupid reason.
Growling to myself, I picked up my phone and blasted off a text to my best friend.
She was probably asleep, but she’d answer when she woke up.
Somebody needed to be witness to this train wreck.
Might as well be Hennessy.

A
dragon never leaves his hoard unguarded.  His heart is another matter.
The second eldest in an ancient line of Russian dragon shifters, Mikhail
Barinov had one job: protect one of the family hoard of jewels. Distracted by
the English virgin queen Elizabeth, who was as dazzling as she was devious; he
lost everything. Five centuries of exile later, news that a construction crew
has unearthed a massive trove of gold and jewels sends him racing to London,
determined to steal back his family’s treasure…and his honor.
Professional gemologist Piper Linwood can’t wait to bury herself in her
newest project, evaluating a hoard of Elizabethan-era treasure. But both her
life and career are threatened when a mysterious, brooding man with a dangerous
smile—and an even more dangerous kiss—snatches the lot.
Unwillingly swept along for the ride, Piper discovers Mikhail is no mere
thief. And the dragon on his back is more than a tattoo. It’s a living,
breathing extension of a bad boy she’s finding harder and harder to resist. But
his heart is a treasure she can never own…because to save her career, she’ll
have to betray his trust.

Sometimes you find a book that just draws you in and completely grabs you. It starts from the first sentence and grips your attention all the way until it’s unwanted ending. You smile, you laugh, gasp, most definitely wish your own mate was handy, and at times reach for the box of Kleenex. Mikhail surpassed my expectations and just blew me away!

Mikhail is a 2000 year old dragon shifter who lives in Cornwall, England, having been exiled by his father over 500 years ago for losing a horde of jewels. Even worse, they were taken from him by the woman who was supposed to be his one true mate. He has lived with his dragon mourning the loss of his mate, angered at losing the jewels and missing his brothers whom he hasn’t seen in 200 years.

But now the jewels have resurfaced, and Mikhail plans to get them back. And he plans on enlisting American Piper Linwood, a gemologist, to help him. Piper is in London to examine and help valuate the jewels for sale at auction. When she meets Mikhail, she’s instantly attracted to him. When Mikhail and Piper kiss, Mikhail realizes she’s his mate!

I’ll let you read the rest of the story, and believe me, you want to. There’s a bad dragon out to steal the jewels, a secret organization, some sizzling hot sex scenes that you’ll need a fan for, and a definitely 4 hanky cry scene. I can’t wait until the next book!

Don’t follow him. Piper ignored her inner voice and slipped
after him through the crowds. Perhaps she should have heeded the voice in her
head, but that voice had kept her living a lonely, bored life. Boring meant not
getting her heart broken. Boring was safe. It was long past time she did
something dangerous.
She found
Mikhail in a small drawing room next to the reception hall. He stood before a
fireplace in the dark as if he belonged there. His lean, strong figure and the
dark navy-blue suit were lit by flames. The door clicked shut behind her, the
sound far too loud in the soft silence of the darkened room. Piper sucked in a
breath, watching the shadows play on his dark hair as he turned to her.
“Piper.”
The word was a silken caress that was straight out of her darkest fantasies.
Even though there was a good distance between them, she could hear him clearly,
his voice seeming to come at her from all sides thanks to the acoustics of the
room.
“Mr.
Barinov,” she whispered so softly there was no way he could hear it. But she
swore she saw his lips twitch in the dim, shifting, gold-vermilion light.
“Straying
off the map into unknown territory, are we?” He chuckled as though it was some
private joke. “Here there be dragons.”
Piper
stared at him. “I followed because…” Why had she followed him? Because he was
like the damn Pied Piper for women who had tall, dark, sexy stranger fantasies.
“You
followed because you can’t stop thinking about it.” That voice poured over her
like molasses, and she could feel a delicious burn grow in her belly.
“Thinking
about what?” She didn’t move, remaining by the door. But he did.
Mikhail
walked toward her with a grace that seemed more panther than human. Her pulse
spiked when he stopped mere inches from her. The firelight made the blue of his
suit appear to be a dark, rich brown as he placed a hand on the closed door
behind her and leaned in. The minty smell of his breath, warm and fresh, fanned
her face, and his eyes, although out of view of the fire, seemed to burn with
light—gold light.
“You are
thinking about…” He moved closer, his lips a hair’s breadth from her now. “This.”
Her heart
exploded as he slanted his mouth over hers. Waves of electric, pulsing pleasure
at that exquisite kiss sent her head spinning. It was like crawling up by the
fire on a cold winter’s night and putting a glass of warm brandy to her lips,
with a slow burn followed by a powerful rush seconds later.
Piper
moaned against him as he slipped his tongue between her lips to stroke hers.
She was already curling her arms around his neck, dragging him closer. Mikhail
pressed his body flush to hers against the door. He was so tall, a daunting
wall of muscles, frightening and exciting all at once. He was a man who could
take her without asking. The thought, as forbidden as it was, only made her
hotter and wetter than she’d ever been before. She should have been ashamed of
such thoughts, but in that moment she couldn’t be. There was too much pleasure
in this kiss, too much exhilaration in her surrender to it. She didn’t want it
to end, didn’t want the distant sounds of the party to intrude upon this perfect
unplanned adventure. It would likely never happen again.
He deepened
the kiss, his mouth consuming hers with a fire that left her giddy. And then
something happened—strange flickers of images flashed across her closed
eyelids. Not her imagination, which had been fixed on Mikhail’s animalistic
appetite. This was something else.
Men in
doublets approaching a throne, a queen with a pale face and red hair, pearls
glistening on the bodice of her gown. Then the images changed, a roaring sea
beneath her, icy water crashing against a distant shore, a deep loneliness that
seemed only to grow until…
She saw
herself at the exhibit. Saw herself through his
eyes, a beacon of color and life drawing him toward her like a moth to the
flame of a candle. She could feel his heart jolt, his body hum to life as he
zeroed in on her. It felt as though he would never look away from her ever
again. It was seductive, powerful, frightening, and yet she embraced the rush
of emotions that came from him.
What…how…?
He broke
the kiss to nip at her throat, and she tilted her head back to let his
exploration continue. “It’s as though you were made just for me, moya sud’ba.”
The way he
said the words made her shiver. “What’s moya
sud’ba
?” she asked.
“My
destiny,” he growled, his eyes bright. “I should have known the moment we first
met.” He inhaled again. “Even the way you smell, sweet and wild like Fire Hill
flowers.”
“Fire Hill
flowers?” she said in a haze. His clothes were still warm from the fire, and
even his skin was hot to the touch.
“The
wildflowers from my home. The Fire Hills of Russia. They are soft and sweet,
not too much, just…” He kissed behind her ear. “Right.”
She
blushed, unable to stop smiling. “I smell like wildflowers?”
He made a
deep-throated purr against the column of her throat, and she dug her nails into
his shoulders. “And your taste,” he continued in a husky whisper as he kissed
her again.
This was
madness to be kissing a stranger in a darkened room lit only by firelight. What
else could you call it? But she was tired of being boring old predictable
Piper. Mikhail made her feel wild and reckless, alive in ways she’d never
dreamed. She didn’t want to stop, didn’t want to go back to being responsible.
She wanted to live in this moment forever.
“What about
my taste?” she asked, her voice trembling with desire.
Mikhail stared down at her and slid his hand into her hair at the nape
of her neck, his fingers coiling the strands tight.
A slight pinch of near pain shot sparks into
her womb. Piper gasped.
“It’s like
the sweetest of Georgian wines. It lingers upon my tongue until I ache to
become drunk on it.” He nuzzled her cheek, his breath echoing hers in quick
pants.
All they
were doing was kissing, yet it felt like a wildfire had burst to life inside
her, and there was no stopping the coming inferno.
“You are to
be my ruination.” He nipped her bottom lip, and she whimpered.
Maybe this
was all some fantastical dream. If it was, she didn’t want to wake up anytime
soon. She was kissing a man who made her see things, impossible things, and she
felt…wild. She felt strong, as though
the woman she’d always wanted to be was suddenly within her reach, as if he’d
unlocked something deep within her. She wouldn’t be able to go back to the
cool, collected woman she once was. He’d breathed fire
into her body, and she wanted the blaze to keep burning bright into the night.

“When we
crash-landed on the island, I thought my story was over. Turns out, it was
about to begin.”
He was an asshole
from the first moment we met.
I took one look at
the stranger in the airport terminal and knew he was exactly the kind of man my
mother spent seventeen years warning me against. Gruff, grumpy, and far too
good-looking to stare at without experiencing heart palpitations.
Thankfully, I’d
never see him again.
Or so I
thought.
I couldn’t have
known our plane would crash.
I couldn’t have
predicted we’d be the only survivors.
I couldn’t have
ever, in my wildest dreams, anticipated that the asshole from the airport would
become my only source of solace in the darkness.
It’s so wrong to
want him, for so many reasons. But as the months slip by and our hopes of rescue grow dimmer… the
spark between us kindles into something impossible to ignore.
Sometimes, survival
requires swimming in uncharted waters. But if salvation doesn’t come soon…
I might just drown
in him.
** UNCHARTED is a
full-length standalone story of survival and forbidden love. Due to action elements,
adult language, and sexual content, it is recommended for readers ages 16 and
up. **

Ovary up, bitch. This is the plan.If she wanted her plan to work, it was going to require sacrifice, which meant
getting this car down the fucking ravine and then climbing down herself. Time
to put on her big-girl thong.

She gathered up her long blond hair and secured it with a ponytail holder. Time
to get to work. She only had a couple of hours. She’d been following Rafe
DeMarco every Tuesday for months. This was the path he’d take. It was too late
for another plan. Besides she’s been setting this up for months.

She had selected the perfect spot for this. Right before the guardrail began.
As an added bonus, there was a path she could use to initially climb down and a
rock outcropping she could stand on to wait for him.

She’d scattered broken glass to make it look like an accident. Once the car was
in neutral, she jogged around to the trunk and started to push.

Her ribs throbbed. That asshole in krav maga class had forgotten they were
training and had gotten in a brutal hit. She’d have bruises for days. But it wasn’t
like she could wait to heal up.

Even as the sweat popped on her brow and her body screamed, inch by inch she
pushed until she finally started to get some momentum. And then managed to get
car right up to the edge. With one more deep breath, she rolled the car over
the edge.

The crash, boom, thud sounds echoed all through the ravine as the car tumbled
front-over-end down the jagged edges of rocks. A quick glance at her watch told
her she needed to haul ass. DeMarco was likely turning on to the road by now,
so she didn’t have time to waste.

It was a stupid thing, but she felt a pang of hurt looking at the shiny blue
paint she’d picked out, all crumpled and cracked. That was the first car she’d
ever bought for herself.

She’d never had her own car before. Her father had preferred for her to be
chauffeured, and her brothers had felt the same way. So she’d been excited to
pick out a car on her own. And look at it now… a martyr for the cause.

“Your sacrifice will not be for nothing, young Toyota.”

The back of the car was now completely smashed and bent, so it looked like the
car had skidded off the road and plunged down the embankment. She shivered.
Under her coat, she only wore a thin dress, one that clung to her curves. But
it was part of the plan, so she’d pushed past the mortification. It would all
be worth it soon.

She clasped her forehead, rubbing at the stress ball of tension that had
settled behind her eyes. Now or never.

The entire scene had been meticulously planned. With a deep breath, she scooted
around the guardrail and held her breath as she started down the nearly
nonexistent trail. Sand and razor-sharp rocks were more than happy to mingle
with her toes and cut up her feet, but she kept moving.

The son of a bitch had better take the bait. He will. This whole plan banked on
Rafe DeMarco being a decent enough human being to care about someone else
potentially being hurt. Either that or curious enough to stop and see what the
hell was going on.

The glass was hard to ignore. As were the random clothes she’d strewn about.
She just prayed some other stray motorist didn’t decide to be a Good Samaritan.
But this was an access road, rarely ever traveled.

She shoved aside the lingering feelings of doubt and concern and guilt. This
man had taken everything away from her, deliberately and systematically. She
was going to return the favor. And she was going to get her life back. It
didn’t matter how long it took.

She shivered again when she remembered his dark eyes peering at her from behind
the mask. He’d just killed her father. Two bullets in the skull. Cold.
Efficient. His lips had been set in a firm, grim line.

She’d gasped from her hiding place, the fear and the shock and despair leaking
through her body like a chemical spill. She still remembered the sound of his
voice as he muttered a single word. “Fuck.” When he’d pulled aside the curtain,
she’d been so sure he was going to kill her too. Positive he was going to
murder her like he’d done her father. But he hadn’t. He’d let her live.

That was his first mistake.

Maybe he’d assumed she’d be so traumatized by the situation that she wouldn’t
remember. Maybe he thought she’d be grateful he hadn’t killed her. Maybe he
thought she’d forget his face, his voice, the way he made her feel.

Bad luck for him. She remembered that day in startling clarity. The day he’d
turned her family upside down. Come to think of it, she needed to have a slogan
for when she saw him again. Like in The Princess Bride.

“My name is Diana Vandergraff. You killed my father. Prepare to die.” She
wasn’t the villain here, so she wasn’t going to have some long, drawn-out
bragging speech. But he would know. She’d make sure he understood the series of
events that had led to his world crumbling.

She wanted him to know.

BLURB:

The highly anticipated conclusion of The Jaded Series, featuring the beloved Nick and the relentless Chris. Be prepared to experience an emotional roller-coaster of a life time!

What do you do when you lose the single most important thing in your life? You grieve. You sink so deep in a hole, you can no longer see the top. All you see is dark. Your life becomes dull and dreary. You withdraw from your friends, lash out at the ones you’re closest to, and become so absorbed in your pain, you feel the only way out is to end it permanently. Your heart no longer pumps properly and you can never get enough air in your lungs. You drink, you neglect your health, and you rent dirty hotel rooms with the sole purpose of ending your pain in them. Guilt eats at you for not being at the one place you were needed the most. And you become angry because you were left behind.

Or at least, that’s what I did. Until she came along…

Chris, the bane of my existence. She’s always there in the background, watching me, trying to ‘be there’ for me. But I don’t want her help. I don’t need her to butt in where she’s not wanted. I just want to be left alone in my dark world. But she’s not giving up, even when I’m a bastard to her. Every time I turn around, there she is. And what’s worse, she’s starting to make me want things. Things I never thought I could have again. She’s making me forget the pain and bringing color back into my life with her fiery red hair, bright green eyes, and the silly faces she makes at herself in the mirror. But what happens if I let her in? Could I be brave enough to open myself up, knowing the possibility of having it snatched away again. Once I know the feeling of touching Chris, of having her heart and soul blend with mine, I would never survive losing that.

Can I take the chance of her being my savior, even knowing that she could also be the one that could push me other the edge of self-destruction?

Awaken Me can be read as a stand alone, but it is HIGHLY recommended to read at least the first in the series, Shatter Me. Through Shatter Me, you will understand the emotional ties between Nick and Chris and why Nick is the way he is. Without reading Shatter Me, Nick’s behavior may seem too harsh for some readers. This is not a light read. Deals with mental abuse through extreme grief. Intended for readers 18+.

KG Logo

Awaken Me is the fourth and final book in Alex Greyson’s Jaded Series. This time it centers on Nick and Chris. It’s been two years since Nick lost Anna to a madman and he is still mired in grief. So much so that he drinks to excess and stays in dingy hotel rooms with the express purpose of shooting himself. But he never quite manages it.

Chris has tried to be a friend to Nick. She wants to help him more than anything, but he wants nothing to do with her. Everyone keeps telling her not to give up on him, and when he manages to go on a massive bender, she agrees to stay at his place to try to help him. But Nick is unhappy she’s there, he feels guilty that he’s attracted to her so he needs to make her go away.

There is a lot of anger and grief displayed by Nick in this book that is hard to take at times. He treats Chris abysmally quite a bit, and it takes a tragedy for him to finally realize his true feelings. This is one of those books that you’ll definitely need a box of tissues to get through, and as the author mentions, maybe some Xanax as well!
