Deep Under by Lisa Renee Jones is the first book in the new Walker Security Series, which is an offshoot of the Tall, Dark and Deadly series. It’s a standalone novel, but it does help if you have read the books in the Tall, Dark and Deadly series as the Walker clan and their women feature here, as well as the employees of Walker Security.
When we last left Kyle, he was convinced that Kyra’s sister, Myla was alive despite the horrific helicopter explosion. He’d seen the expression on her face that told him she was in fear for her life and that everything was not as it seemed. 14 months later, he hasn’t given up the search, and it’s led him to a job as a bodyguard. He finds out that the man who hired him is none other than Michael Alvarez, and the job is Myla.
Myla doesn’t trust Kyle. She figures that he’s been sent to test her loyalty to Alvarez and she hasn’t endured 14 months of hell to see her mission fail now. She needs her sister to believe she’s still dead and for Michael to trust her. But Kyle makes her feel things she shouldn’t feel, and she wants to trust him. Will it get them both killed?
This was a great first book in the Walker security series, and Lisa Renee’s writing was seductive, fun, and captivating as usual. Written in first person, alternating points of view, it kept the suspense up as both characters had to learn to trust one another to bring down a major kingpin. A definite must-have!
