Mended is the final book of the Broken trilogy by J.L Drake about a young woman named Savi who is rescued by a covert group of military men when she is kidnapped thanks to her father’s aide and her supposed best friend. She falls in love with their leader, Cole Logan. But at the end of the book, she decides she needs her space and moves out of the protective environment of the Shadows compound and into an apartment in the city. She gets a job as a bartender in a bar owned by an ex-Shadows member, Zack. She also becomes good friends with fellow bartender and neighbor Jake.
Savi has to testify against the American and her ex-friend Lynne. Upon testifying against the American, she’s rather upset that Keith is not only rather cool towards her, but he also sends her with an agent rather than taking her himself. My issue in this book is that Savi spends a lot of time being mad at both Cole and the Shadows guys for being standoffish, but she repeatedly pushes them all away by saying she needs space. She sleeps with Cole then kicks him out. Gives the cell with all of their contacts back to Cole and gets a phone with only Sue and Jake’s number on it, then complains about how distant the guys are. It’s like Savi wants her cake and to eat it as well.
Cole’s parents are both far too involved in their relationship, and I honestly think they kept them apart longer with all of their bad advice. Jake, well he stuck his nose in far too often, and setting her up on a blind date didn’t help matters any.
I was also a bit confused with the writing going from third person to first person and past tense to present tense. Aside from all of this, I really did enjoy this series.
