A man born to protect

After a major loss, Brody Carter found a home with the London office of McKay-Taggart. A former soldier, he believes his job is to take the bullets and follow orders. He’s happy to take on the job of protecting Dr. Stephanie Gibson while the team uses her clinic in Sierra Leone to bring down an international criminal. One night of pure passion leads him to realize that he can’t risk his heart again. When the mission ends, Brody walks away, unwilling to lose another person he loves.

A woman driven to heal

Stephanie’s tragic past taught her to live for today. Everything she’s done in the last fifteen years has been to make up for her mistakes. Offering medical care in war-torn regions gives her the purpose she needs to carry on. When she meets her gorgeous Aussie protector, she knows she’s in too deep, but nothing can stop her from falling head over heels in love. But after one amazing night together, Brody walks away and never looks back. Stephanie is left behind…but not alone.

A secret that will change both their lives

A year later, Stephanie runs afoul of an evil mercenary who vows to kill her for failing to save his son. She runs to the only people she trusts, Liam and Avery O’Donnell. She hasn’t come alone and her secret will bring her former lover across the world to protect her. From Liberia to Dallas to Australia’s outback, Brody will do whatever it takes to protect Stephanie from the man who wants to kill her, but it might be her own personal demons that could destroy them both.

Those guys and gals from Lexi Blake’s Masters and Mercenaries series are back! And you can’t see me, but I’m doing a serious happy dance in my chair. This is one of my favorite series and has been ever since Grace and Sean’s book, The Dom Who Loved Me. (Which came out on my wedding anniversary, September 25th, in 2011. Great present!) Of course, I have my favorites, as I’m sure everyone reading Lexi does. I have always had a crush on Liam O’Donnell, the sexy Irishman from A Dom is Forever, and Avery, his wife and submissive is one of my favorite female characters. Of course, there is Ian Taggart. The head of the McKay-Taggart group. He’s a tall, Viking-like, dominant, kick-ass who has an addiction for Guns n’ Roses, lemon bars, and a russian mob assassin named Charlie. (Charlotte) He’s also one of the funniest characters in the creation of literature as far as I’m concerned.

He clutched the box. “The lemon bars are completely defenseless. You are not. I trust you, baby. Any one of these guys tries something on you, you’ll take ’em out. And I’ll protect the lemon bars.”

On to our new release, Love Another Day. Our main couple are Stephanie Gibson, who is the doctor in Africa who was once long ago responsible for the car accident that killed Avery Charles first husband and child and put her in the hospital, losing the use of her legs for a time. Avery had forgiven her, and told her she owed her two lives. She has never given up the guilt for that, despite the fact both Liam and Avery have tried to get her to. The London office’s agent, Brody Carter, a big, scarred Aussie, who worked with Steph on the Hope McDonald assignment, is our hero. He had one night with Steph, went back to London, and cut off communication with her, thinking it was for the best because he was no good for her.

Now, Stephanie is running for her life, and she’s made her way to the McKay-Taggart team in Texas, specifically her ‘family’, Liam and Avery O’Donnell. She’s also brought someone else with her, and when Brody comes running after a brief call from Li and a frightening call to her cell, Brody learns that he probably shouldn’t have erased all of Stephanie’s voice mails.

Honestly, this was one of the best in the M&M bunch to date, though there were times I just wanted to shake Steph. I got a little crazed with all of the times she held the missed phone calls over Brody’s head, and her trying to pretty much run to her death. But that’s the brilliance of Lexi Blake, she makes you have genuine feelings for her characters. And I can’t wait to learn more about Tucker and the the other “puppies” as Ian likes to affectionately call them. Bravo Lexi, for another thrilling roller ride with the McKay-Taggart-Knight gang, I can’t wait to see what’s next!

The door slammed and she suddenly found herself with her back against it. Brody crowded in, taking up all the space and staring down at her. His body brushed hers and she found both her wrists captured in one of his. He dragged them over her head, forcing her chest to come out, breasts skimming along his body. “I shouldn’t do this.”

Tough chick was winning. Steph let her take over. It was surely better than the desperate girl who lived inside her. She kept asking for love and affection and getting swatted away. This was the next best thing, possibly the only thing she would ever get. “Then don’t. Let me go and I won’t bother you again.”

“No, you’ll go find Ezra Fain and bother him,” Brody said on a growl.

“Somehow, I don’t think he’ll find me a bother.” She’d barely spoken two words to the man, but she wasn’t going to admit it. It was better to let Brody think she wasn’t a love-starved girl.

“He won’t fucking find you anything at all. If you’re determined to not sleep alone tonight, you can damn well do it with me.” His mouth came down on hers and every inch of her skin came alive. His kiss was overwhelming, hungry. There was no slow meshing of mouths. He took her, his tongue surging inside and dominating her own. He let go of her hands and started to explore her body. His hands were on her hips when he came up for air. “I’m leaving in the morning. I’m going back to London and I can’t come back.”

She’d known that would probably be his answer. She’d known he wouldn’t want to stay and she couldn’t leave.

“One night. That’s all I want.” It was all she could have. It had been foolish to think it could be any different.

His mouth came down on hers again and she let herself get swept away. One night and her life would go back to normal. One night and then she would be alone again. His hands started to roam over her and she tried to forget all the reasons why this was a bad idea.

He stepped back, his entire body set in hard lines. He strode over to the bed and sat down. “Take off the gown. It’s pretty, but I want to see you.”

She hesitated, all her insecurities coming to the forefront. Somehow, she’d thought he would simply take her. “Let me get the lights.”

He was back in her space again, his hand wrapping around her wrist. “I didn’t say turn off the lights. I said take off the gown. How am I going to see you if you turn off the lights?”

“Brody,” she began.

He was having none of it. “You got on your knees in front of me and you said you knew what you were offering me. The first thing you were offering me was obedience. The second was your body. You’re giving me neither right now.”

His voice had gone midnight dark and something about the tone made her soften. He was right. She did know what she’d offered him and now she was trying to have it all her way.

There was nothing wrong with her body. It was feminine and she was healthy. What was she afraid of? “All right.”

He let go of her wrist and sat back down, looking like a damn king waiting on his concubine’s performance. For all his “I’m nothing but a grunt” talk, the man could be incredibly arrogant, and damn if she didn’t find it sexy as hell.

Something about that voice let her know that everything was going to be fine. He was past the point of rejection. He was in and that meant he would play her Dom for the night. He would take care of her. She was as safe with him in the bedroom as she’d been in the field.

At least she was safe for the night. In the morning she would be in a world of hurt, but she wasn’t thinking past tonight.

LAD-teaser-3

Wicked Wish (Wicked Horse Vegas) by Sawyer Bennett

Jorinda Pearce thought she did everything right – graduated from college, married her long-time sweetheart, established a career. But what does she have to show for it now? A degree she doesn’t use, a job she hates, and an ex-husband that broke her heart.

Looking for a long overdue adventure, Jorie takes a walk on the wild side and attends a masquerade event at The Wicked Horse Vegas. It’s exactly the escape she’s looking for, and even better, she can explore anonymously. Drawn to the man masked in black leather with the body of a god, Jorie finds the greatest pleasures of her life at the hands of a stranger.

Walsh Brooks is the most sought after man in The Wicked Horse. Sex is nothing but a game to him and he’s the type that will always leave at the end of the night without looking back. Unfortunately for Walsh, there’s no way he can walk away from the mysterious green-eyed beauty behind the mask of sapphire feathers, because he knows exactly who she is.

Jorie is his best friend’s little sister and there’s not another woman in the world that’s more off limits.

Welcome back to the Wicked Horse Las Vegas, where all sorts of dirty, kinky, sex happens. You gotta love this series from Sawyer Bennett, an offshoot from the original Wicked Horse series, (Which I still have yet to review, of course.) But the series has moved to the 24/7 neon playground that is Vegas, where anything and everything can happen.

Our focus this time out is the taboo best friend’s little sister story, done to it’s dirtiest extremes.  Walsh Brooks is a millionaire many times over and a hotel and casino owner. He also enjoys the benefits of a membership at the Wicked Horse, and up until Jericho found love, he used to share women with him, now, it’s whoever gets him off. Walsh doesn’t do relationships.

Jorie Pearce has taken a hit to her self esteem when her husband kicks her out for being bad in bed. She moves back to Vegas with her best friend Elena. Elena helps Jorie prove to herself that she’s desirable by taking her to Wicked Horse on masquerade night. Jorie finds herself in one of the glass front rooms with a tall, sexy stranger wearing a hood. There’s a sex machine in the room with him and he takes out a tube of lipstick, writing on the glass…

“He walks up to the glass window and starts writing words in reverse fashion so we can read them from our side of the glass. Slowly, he spells out his message. Anyone brave enough to come in here with me?”

Jorie ends up taking him up on the invitation, and after a wild ride on both the machine and him, they both discover they know each other. She’s his best friend’s little sister whom he’s known since she’s been born. Needless to say, Walsh is horrified. The next day, Jorie goes to his hotel to see him. Walsh tries to ignore her.

“I watch as Bentley listens, but I can’t gauge what’s being said as his face remains blank. Finally, he says, “Very good, sir.” I take this to mean I’ll be getting an escort to the penthouse suite, but Bentley replaces the receiver and says, “I’m sorry, Miss Pearce. But Mr. Walsh told me to tell you he’s busy and can’t receive you right now.” My eyes narrow at Bentley. “I don’t believe you. Call back and let me talk to him.” “I assure you, I just talked to him and that’s what he said.” “Call him back,” I order as I point to the phone. “I can’t,” he says almost with a wail. “If I do, he’ll fire me.” Okay, that hits home. I don’t want to get anyone in trouble, so I say, “Fine. Give me just a moment.” I take a few steps away from the concierge desk and pull my iPhone out. I shoot off a quick text to Micah. What’s Walsh’s phone number? I wait a few moments, but I know Micah is awake in San Francisco at this hour. His phone is always on, and he never ignores a text from me. He responds with the number before I can even start to tap my foot with impatience, adding on, Why? I hate the lie, but I write back,Came to Vegas for the day. Thought I’d see if he could meet up for lunch. Haven’t seen him in years. Cool, he writes back. Tell him I said, “what’s up, douche?” I roll my eyes as I text back, Real mature. Love ya. Later. After I save the number to my contacts, I open a new text to Walsh. Let me up to see you or I’m going straight back to The Wicked Horse to satisfy some further curiosities I have. I hit send and then walk back to the concierge desk. I merely lean one elbow on it and watch Bentley with a silent smile. The phone rings about ten seconds after that. Bentley’s eyes fly to mine as he listens, and then says, “Yes, sir. Right away.” When he replaces the receiver, he says, “I’m to show you to the penthouse elevator.” “Thank you, Bentley,” I say brightly”

And so we begin in a friends to lovers story that has a heat factor that totally blows off the heat charts. This was one steamy story. Walsh is determined in the beginning to keep his distance from Jorie because not only is she his best friend Micah’s sister, but he’s basically changed her diapers and babysat her. He’s also her savior, having helped her in a bad situation when she was 16 and exacting revenge for it.

I love these two together and I thought that Ms Bennett knocked it out of the park as usual. I was a bit concerned at one point when Jorie seemed to flip between Walsh and her husband (they’re separated). But she did an awesome job in how she had Jorie handle the situation!

Squaring my shoulders, I march into The Royale and head straight for the concierge desk. I haven’t been in this casino before. Hell, I haven’t been in hardly any of them. Sure, I’d only grown up about forty-five minutes away, but gambling and all-you-can-eat buffets held no interest to me.

From Micah bragging about his best friend over the years, I knew Walsh orchestrated the purchase of the land, then pulled together financing with two other partners to build this casino. It’s one of the most popular on the strip, boasting five-star dining, old-world elegance, and superior customer service. Again, all this from Micah, but honestly… I’m so proud of Walsh, too. We may have lost touch over the years, but I’ll never forget all the ways in which he acted as a big brother to me.

Ick.

Okay… that’s gross. Thinking of Walsh like a brother.

I scrub my mind clean of that thought and demand myself never to do that again.

Rather, I’ll never forget all the ways in which Walsh provided me friendship and support in my formative years.

Yes… much better.

“Can I help you?” a man behind the concierge desk asks with a genuine and friendly smile. Not snooty as I would expect in a fancy hotel, and I guess that goes to the superior customer service The Royale strives for.

“Yes… hi,” I say as I nervously tuck my hair behind my ears on both sides. “I need to see Mr. Brooks. How do I go about getting access to his apartment?”

Micah told me some time ago that Walsh lives here.

The concierge never loses his friendly smile, but a single eyebrow arches high at my temerity.

“Oh, gosh,” I stammer. “That came out stalkerish. Mr. Brooks… I mean, Walsh… and I are longtime friends. He used to babysit me.”

“Your name?” the man asks as he pulls up something on his computer.

“Jorie Pearce.”

After a moment of scanning, he looks up at me. “Your name isn’t on the approved list.”

“Well, he’s not exactly expecting me.”

“I’m sorry, Miss Pearce,” he says with true regret in his voice. “But our policy is strict. No one gets up to the private penthouse without their name on the list.”

I lean on the desk with one elbow and lower my voice. “Just out of curiosity… are there any women on that list?”

The eyebrow shoots up again.

“No, wait,” I say hastily as I hold my palms toward him in a silent plea to not process my last request either mentally or on the computer. “That’s totally stalkerish, and I didn’t mean that.”

“Miss Pearce,” the concierge says, now with a hint of annoyance. “Perhaps you’d like to leave a message? I can get it up to Mr. Brooks today and he can call you.”

“No, I need to see him now,” I tell him firmly. “And I swear it’s not to cook a rabbit in a pot on his stove. Can you please just call up to his apartment?”

“That’s not our policy—”

“Look,” I snap as I lean across the desk slightly. “I’m a lifelong friend of Walsh’s. My brother is his best friend. We lost touch for a few years, but we ran into each other last night. I really need to talk to him about something that happened last night, and I’m not leaving this hotel until you call up to his apartment.”

The eyebrow doesn’t arch but it does draw inward to meet its match on the other side as he considers what I just said.

“I swear to you,” and here I pause to look at his name tag, “Bentley. Please just call him. He won’t be mad.”

With a sigh, he relents and picks up the phone receiver, punching in a five-digit number. After a pause, he says, “Mr. Brooks… I’m very sorry to disturb you, sir, but there’s a Miss Jorie Pearce here to see you. She says she’s a longtime friend.”

I watch as Bentley listens, but I can’t gauge what’s being said as his face remains blank. Finally, he says, “Very good, sir.”

I take this to mean I’ll be getting an escort to the penthouse suite, but Bentley replaces the receiver and says, “I’m sorry, Miss Pearce. But Mr. Walsh told me to tell you he’s busy and can’t receive you right now.”

My eyes narrow at Bentley. “I don’t believe you. Call back and let me talk to him.”

But when that day comes, he realizes there are more obstacles in his way. The biggest…Evie herself.

Until Evie gets asked to be the maid-of-honor in her best friend’s destination wedding, and Evie needs a date. The circumstances are perfect for Greyson to set his plan of seduction into motion. Skirt Chaser is the second novel in Stacey Kennedy’s Filthy Dirty Love series. As usual, I missed the first book, I’m not even sure why, because Ms. Kennedy is one of those auto buy authors for me. This book is about Greyson Richards who is best friends with the hero in book one of the series, Maddox. Greyson is an architect. He’s a pretty happy man right now because he’s at the end of a 30 day work contract with his interior designer, Evie Crawford. He wants Evie. Bad.

Grey finds Evie in the bathroom clearly upset over a wedding invitation. Evie is the maid of honor in her best friend’s wedding. To Her ex-boyfriend. Grey decides this is the perfect opportunity, so he makes a deal with her, since it’s a destination wedding, he’ll go with her as her boyfriend to make it look good, and what does he get?

“My rules, your surrender, until we’re back in Seattle.”

Evie agrees because Evie has wanted him. But after a weekend of kinky, no holds barred sex, can they both keep their emotions out of it?  This was a seriously excellent book with some of the hottest sex scenes ever! Not surprising coming from Ms Kennedy, as she does this genre like nobody else! A definite keeper and a reread for the future!

Exclusive Excerpt:

Intent and careful to take his time not to scare any other employees in the restroom, Grey entered the simple and modern bathroom with the five stalls. Only one door was closed, and there was no one at the sink, so he moved toward the vanity and leaned against it. Hands shoved into his pockets, he stared at the closed door, giving Evie the time she needed. That’s when he heard her soft cries, and with those pained noises, something inside of him tensed.

It was a sensation strong enough to make him question what it was about this woman that drew him in so intently. She’d gotten a grip on his mind and body so tightly that he pondered her situation, and his, and what he could do about both. He’d become so lost in his thoughts that he didn’t realize she’d opened the door until she was leaving the stall and striding out.

Head down, she hadn’t noticed him yet, so he called out to her, “Evie.”

Her head snapped up, a scream ripping from her throat, hands pressing against her chest. “Holy shit!”

He couldn’t help but chuckle. “I’m sorry for scaring you.” His amusement washed away when he took a good look at her face. There was so much pain there. He didn’t like it.

The shock from her face slowly faded. “Why are you in here?” she asked.

“To return your phone to you.” He moved to her, watching her following his every step. The heat in her eyes was instant, and that’d always been the problem. She wanted him. Christ, did she want him, he could tell. But she was smart and clever, never one to cross the professional line either. She was also a good girl, who likely needed love before sex. Maybe that was the real reason she didn’t ever cross the line. Maybe it was less about the job and more about protecting her heart from a guy that screamed danger. He could understand why.

Though he never was a man who took the easy road, and he sure as shit liked a challenge. He stared into her gorgeous eyes, and a plan formed. One that got him what he wanted, and yet would benefit her, too. He’d never been a sly or shady guy, but he was a good businessman. And that meant using a situation to his advantage.

“So, that’s it. You got out the good cry you needed to,” he said to her, and he liked the way her lips parted when he leaned in toward her; it showed him just how much she yearned for his kiss. “Your ex is marrying your best friend,” he added. “He’s an asshole. She’s a bitch. This is happening, but it’s how you deal with it that truly matters.”

“He’s not an asshole,” she said softly, shaking her head. “And she’s not a bitch. I’ve helped plan their wedding for the last year, and I’m happy for them. I think…maybe it hadn’t sunk in or something.” She drew in a deep breath, releasing it out her nose and added with a soft smile, “But I’m better now. I’m sorry I fell apart out there.”

“One, I disagree with you,” he retorted sternly. “I’m not convinced these aren’t terrible people. And two, do not apologize that their selfishness hurt you. In fact, I’d say it’s time to get revenge.”

The side of her mouth arched slightly. He noted her long exhale, and he knew that had nothing to do with emotions. That it was this push and pull thing going on between them. Call it chemistry, intensity, whatever, it was as addictive as it was captivating. “How exactly do I do that?” She grabbed a paper towel, got it a bit wet with cold water, and then began wiping off her makeup, adding, “Murder them?” She gave him her sexy smile that pooled heat in his groin.

Grey chuckled, leaning his hip against the counter. “Perhaps that’s a bit extreme. Murder means jail time, and you going away is definitely not what I want.”

She slowly glanced at him then, cheeks flushing pink, and the dilation of her pupils was obvious. That look had snagged him the very first day after his COO hired her to design the lobby of the interior of their latest multi-million-dollar high-rise.

Now, the look intensified, hardening his cock, centering his mind on all the wicked things he’d like to do to her. He stepped toward her, as she spun around, leaning against the counter, wide eyes on him. There was something about her, maybe her innocence, maybe this unexplainable connection that had only grown since he worked alongside her, but it captured him in an unbreakable spell.

In the seconds that passed, the desire practically wafted off her, scented so sweet his cock went hard just that easily. As it always did, the space between them felt charged with electricity, but he’d never gotten this close to her before. He never let her feel the extent of how he wanted her. Now, he held nothing back.

“I have a better idea than jail time,” he told her, giving her enough distance that if she wanted to move and leave the bathroom, she could. When she stayed put, he added, “Show these bastards up. Take me with you, and make them both ragingly jealous.”

Her eyes searched his, then she broke out in loud laughter. “Yeah, right. Hilarious.”

She might have said one thing, but the only thing he noticed was that she wasn’t moving, eyes locked on him. “I’m not kidding,” he said, erasing the distance between them, placing both hands on either side of her, trapping her between him and the counter.

“You’re not kidding,” she said, more of a statement than a question.

Grey glanced from her bottom lip she nibbled to her flushed cheeks to her smoldering eyes… Christ, what he’d do to this woman. It would be indecent. “I would never joke about something that so clearly upsets you,” he told her seriously. “I can only imagine you want to one-up them. I know I would. Use me to do it.”

“She’s my best friend,” she said softly. “I don’t need to one-up her.”

He let his gaze roam over her pretty face before looking into her smoldering eyes again. “Tell me it’s never crossed your mind what it would feel like to walk in there not like a sad third wheel but like a woman who owns the world.”

“And how would that ever happen?’

“You’ll have me on your arm.”

Her mouth twisted. “You’re pretty sure of yourself.”

“Angel, I am never the third wheel of anything,” he told her, dead serious. “I’m the engine, the accelerator, and the whole damn car.”

She swallowed deeply and studied him, hard. “All right,” she eventually said, “say I’m game and actually agree to this crazy plan, what do you get out of it?”

“I get you.” He brought his mouth close enough to tease her. She wanted his kiss, angling her head backward, parting her lips. He dragged his nose across hers, and added, “I get to have you in all the ways you know I want you. Beneath me, over me, against a wall, on your knees, screaming my name, whatever I want. Completely under my control.” And to ensure there were no misunderstandings, he sternly added, “My game. My rules. Your surrender, until we’re back in Seattle.”

In a breathy voice, she asked, “Tell me why any sane woman would do this?”

He grinned at her—a sly smile that worked its charm on many women but seemed to have an even greater effect on her. He watched the way the heat rippled through her, and her breath grew rough and raspy, and fuck, did he want to make her moan.

“First, and most importantly,” he answered, staying on point, “you will do this because we both know you’ve been looking for a good reason to say yes to a little guilt-free, no-strings-attached with me. So, here it is. I’m giving you the perfect scenario for us to make that happen. The rules are clear. There can be no misunderstandings.”

She hadn’t blinked. “And second?”

“Secondly,” he said, moving his nose to her neck, inhaling her scent of sugar and spice while he slid back up her smooth skin to her ear, feeling her shuddering under his touch. “I’m that guy that every woman, including your bitch of a best friend, will want.” He lifted his head, staring into her lust-filled eyes. “I’m the perfect guy to show your shithead ex-boyfriend you’ve moved up in the world.”

She finally blinked. “When exactly would this arrangement start?”

“Tonight. My house. Eight o’clock. Bring your suitcase.” He paused, considered his next steps. “Send your flight and resort details to my email so I can get that squared away.”

She nodded. “Okay.”

He took her chin, tilting her eyes to lock onto his. “The proper reply is: ‘Yes, Grey, I agree to your terms.’”

Silence fell.

A slowly seductive, delicious darkness slid over her eyes with her grin. “Yes, Grey, I agree to your terms.”

Perilous Trust by Barbara Freethy

In PERILOUS TRUST, #1 New York Times Bestselling Author Barbara Freethy brings you the first book in a new romantic suspense series! OFF THE GRID: An FBI Series offers five breath-stealing books filled with action-packed plot, heart-stopping romance, and page-turning suspense.

It was one dark night that brought Damon Wolfe and Sophie Parker together. They were two tortured souls, looking for escape, and they weren’t supposed to see each other ever again…

Four years later, Sophie’s FBI father, who is also Damon’s mentor, is killed in a suspicious car crash after leaving Sophie a cryptic message to trust no one from the agency. When Damon shows up looking for her, she isn’t sure if he’s friend or enemy, but she knows he could easily rip apart what is left of her heart.

The last thing Damon wants is to get involved with Sophie again. It was hard enough to walk away the first time. But she’s in trouble, her father’s reputation is under attack, and the lives of his fellow agents are at stake if there’s a traitor in their midst.

When someone starts shooting at them, they have no choice but to go on the run and off the grid. Everyone in their world becomes a suspect. They want to uncover the truth, but will it turn out to be the last thing they expect? Proving her father’s innocence might just cost them their hearts…and their lives…

This is a first time for me reading a Barbara Freethy book, but I was hooked upon reading the book blurb so I thought I’d give it a try. I’m a big fan of suspense mixed with crime and romance. I’m definitely glad I picked this up, and I’ll be reading more!

Sophie is an archeology teacher at NYU and has a father who is a big deal FBI agent at Quantico. She gets a cryptic voice mail from her father about a key and he tells her to trust no one, especially fellow agents. A one-night stand from years ago named Damon Wolf is bound and determined to protect her, but she doesn’t know who to trust.

This was just a well-written story with lots of twists and turns. Who’s bad? Who’s good? Who killed Sophie’s father? There’s also lots of hot and steamy romance! I’m looking forward to the next installment!

“Why did you run away from your apartment, your friends, your father’s coworkers? Why did you just disappear, Sophie?” Damon asked.

“Because someone killed my dad.”

“It’s possible it was an accident.”

“You don’t believe that any more than I do.”

“Maybe not, but I think something specific spooked you.”

“You mean like the two men I saw going into my apartment building?”

“You saw the men who broke into your apartment?” he asked in surprise.

“I don’t know if they were the ones, but they could have been.”

“What did they look like?”

“Law enforcement, maybe—I don’t know.”

Damon stared back at her, and she could see him running through her words in his head. “Why would you be afraid of law enforcement when your father is FBI?”

“Gut instinct,” she lied, knowing she wouldn’t have been afraid at all if her father hadn’t told her to be. “And it looks like I was right to run. If I’d gone to my apartment, who knows what would have happened?”

His lips drew into a hard line. “Look, Sophie, I want to help you.”

“Why? Why on earth would you want to help me?”

His gaze darkened, and the air sizzled between them as they found themselves back in a place probably neither of them wanted to revisit, but they were there all the same.

“We’re not friends,” she said quickly, needing to break the tension. “We’re not anything. We haven’t seen each other in four years. Why do you care where I am, what I’m doing? Is it because of loyalty to my dad? That has to be it, right? Nothing else could have made you drive all the way up here.”

“I should have called you after that night,” he said.

“I’m not looking for an apology.”

“Aren’t you?”

“No. Maybe. No,” she said, hating to sound so uncertain. “None of that is important now. I have bigger problems.”

“Then let’s talk about now,” he said, relief in his eyes as he changed the subject. “I respected your father. He was a mentor to me. I owe him for that, and I know that he would want me to help you. He trusted me, and I hope you can trust me, too.”

“I don’t know if my father trusted you,” she said, shaking her head.

Surprise and anger flared in his eyes. “Why would you say that?”

“Because he told me not to trust anyone from the bureau, and since you’re an agent, that includes you. Please, just go. Just leave me alone,” she pleaded, desperate to get him out of the cabin before she did something even more stupid—like start to trust him. “I’ll disappear. I’ll go somewhere no one else knows about. You don’t have to worry about me. You’ve done your duty. You came after me. You did that for my dad. Now do something for me—leave me alone. You’ve managed it for four years. You can keep going.”

His mouth tightened. “I’m not leaving you alone. You won’t be safe. You can’t get help from a friend, because you’ll put them in danger, and even if you are very careful, you’ll make a mistake. You don’t know how to stay off the radar, but I do. You’re going to have to trust someone at some point. You’re going to have to put your anger aside and let it be me.”

Before she could answer, she was suddenly hit with a shower of glass from the nearby window.

What the hell had just happened?

Another pane blew out, and something whizzed by her ear.

Damon grabbed her arm and pulled down as a third window exploded.

Someone was shooting at her!

Bullets & Bonfires by Autumn Jones Lake

Today we have the blog tour for Bullets & Bonfires by Autumn Jones Lake! Check it out and grab your copy today!

Title: Bullets & Bonfires

Author: Autumn Jones Lake

About Bullets & Bonfires:

The one man she’s always wanted is now the sexy sheriff of their hometown.

Battered but not broken, grad student Brianna Avery returns to the childhood home she abandoned four years ago. With her abusive ex behind bars, Bree needs the summer to relax and recover before returning to school. But her overprotective brother decides she needs someone to babysit her in his absence, and he picks the one person guaranteed to drive her nuts.

She’s the one woman he can’t have.

Telling Bree no has never been easy. Four years ago, Liam Hollister did it to preserve his friendship with his best friend—Brianna’s brother. Now, no matter how she tempts him, he’s determined to do the right thing. As deputy sheriff of their rural area, Liam is torn between protecting Brianna and wanting her for himself.

Take a risk or lose the chance.

Spending so much time alone together challenges them both. Old feelings and hurts resurface immediately. With each hot, sweaty day it’s harder to deny their attraction.

It’s going to be a long, hot summer.

KG Logo

Bullets and Bonfires is a friends to lovers story, and it’s a best friend’s little sister story. I typically try very hard to avoid most of the common tropes, mostly because I have read them so much, and because they are usually overplayed. However, the blurb for this dragged me in, so I read.

We have the small town sheriff, Liam who is charged with keeping an eye out for his best friend’s little sister, Bree. Of course we all know where this is leading. But Bree has just gotten out of a pretty bad abusive relationship, and he’s in jail. He’s also got an angry brother. So we know things are going to start spicing up. I really liked the relationship between these two because Liam is such an alpha. Plus, there are lots of bad guy moments for us to savor for those of us who like suspense.

My only complaint is that the beginning was a bit confusing as to what exactly was going on, other than that, a very enjoyable read.

Hope Restored by Carrie Ann Ryan

Murphy’s story is here! You can get your hands on Carrie Ann Ryan’s HOPE RESTORED now! Read an excerpt below and pick up your copy today!

About HOPE RESTORED

The Gallagher Brothers series from NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan concludes with the final brother who thought he had everything to look forward to, and the one woman who can handle him.

Life isn’t worth living if you don’t fight to live. That’s what Murphy Gallagher learned at a young age when cancer ravaged his body not once, but twice. Over the course of his survival, he lost his parents and his childhood, but he’s been healthy for years and has become a man he hopes his family is proud of. But when his world tilts on its axis yet again, he’ll have to learn what it means to fight not only the unknown but also his attraction to his best friend.

Tessa Stone works hard and plays harder. She’s spent her life trying to figure out who she is in the present rather than looking back. Yet when she’s forced into close proximity with Murphy, she’ll have to not only be his rock but learn how to relax enough to maybe let him be hers, as well. But seduction doesn’t stop when the world seems to, and close encounters of the naked kind might just be the first step in something much more complicated than either of them bargained for. Life, though, is for living, after all.

I have so enjoyed the Gallagher clan and those surrounding them. But now we come to the last of the Gallagher brothers, Murphy, whose story has been long awaited.

Murphy has had a rough go of it, he’s already dealt with two bouts of cancer growing up, and now he’s doing well with the construction company. But the bottom falls out on him in spectacular fashion, and it does so right in front of his family and best friend Tessa. Then he becomes homeless, so he ends up moving in with her. Both he and Tessa are attracted to each other, and do their best to stay in the friend zone.

But they both can only take so much. Besides, Murphy is pierced after all, how does a girl stay away from that? (Ummm…No, I certainly couldn’t.) Get the hankies ready for this one, because you are going to need them! And if these two aren’t dealing with enough, bad things start to happen. Slashed tires, dead fowl, and mysterious moving car parts. You won’t want to miss this one!

“I know you told me to forget what happened after I got out of the shower, but I don’t think I can.” Murphy turned toward her, and she moved her head so she looked right into his eyes. She almost gasped at the heat she saw in them, and at how dark they’d become, but she stopped just in time.

“What are you saying?”

“I can’t get you out of my head, Tessa.” Murphy raked his hands through his hair, and Tessa watched as his muscles bunched up deliciously at the action. “We’ve always flirted, but we made sure to stay on the side of friendship.”

“And that was a good choice,” Tessa said quickly, afraid of what was being said, and yet knowing there was no turning back now.

“Was it? Because I’m so happy that you’re in my life. I love that you’re my friend. But every time I look at you, I see something more. I see something that we could be.”

“Are you talking about just sex?” She wasn’t sure she wanted to hear the answer, but she needed to know. “Because I’m not going to ruin what we have. I’m not going to ruin what our friends have just for sex. I might be damn good at sex and, hell, I’m pretty sure you’re damn good at it, too, but no amount of sex is worth ruining everything else.”

Murphy snorted. “I am damn good at sex. And I have a feeling you’re even better than you think you are, but that’s not what I’m talking about. Or, at least, that’s not all I’m talking about. I like you. I think I’ve always liked you. I don’t know what’s coming for me— or anyone else for that matter. But I’m tired of standing by and doing nothing because I’m too afraid of what might happen.”

Tears filled her eyes, and Murphy reached out to wipe them away before she could. “Murphy…”

“I didn’t mean to make you cry. I don’t ever want to make you cry. I want to feel your skin beneath my fingertips. I want to know what you feel like against me when we both plan on it, and not when it’s by accident. I want to know who you are beyond the woman that I know now because I have a feeling that woman is fucking amazing.”

“Murphy… you’re going to have to explain to me exactly what you’re saying because, right now? Right now, I’m seriously confused.” Or rather, she was afraid she was reading too much into his words and getting it all wrong.

Murphy moved closer again, this time, so close that their thighs touched, and she could feel his breath on her neck. “I’m saying you only live once, Tessa. I want to know you. I want to feel you underneath me. I want to go back to your bedroom and make love to you, fuck you hard into the mattress until we are both sweaty, panting, and spent. What comes after? That’s something we’ll have to figure out as we go on, but I’m tired of holding myself back because I’m afraid. I’m tired of not doing what could be the best thing for us because I don’t want to take the chance.”

He cupped her face, and she sucked in a breath. The heat of him was unreal, and all she wanted to do was lean forward and brush her lips over his. But she couldn’t. Not yet. Tessa might have always been a risk taker, but what they had was far too important to risk. Murphy was far too important to risk.

“Are you saying all of this because you’re sick?” She asked the one question she knew he might hate her for. But it was also the question she needed the answer to most.

“Maybe. But I’ve been feeling this need for you since before I knew I was sick again. So, maybe me looking into the hourglass made me actually give in to what I’m feeling. But knowing that isn’t the reason I want you in the first place. I want you, Tessa. All of you. Not because I’m afraid of what might come, but because I don’t want to lose what we could have because of fear.”

She had no idea what to say. She had no idea what would be a good answer. She had been battling her attraction to Murphy since the beginning, and she knew he’d always been attracted to her, as well. But now, she felt as if they were both at the tipping point. So instead of talking more, instead of worrying, instead of thinking that she was possibly making a huge mistake, she just felt.

And damned the consequences in the morning.

Band manager James Brandon never expected to find the satisfaction he’d been chasing, let alone stumble upon it in some sleazy Hollywood meat market. Yet the girl’s quiet pride spoke to him from across the bar. But after losing the grip on his dark desires that one fateful night, James has spent the last four years atoning for letting her down. But an old business rivalry rears its ugly head. When Flynn Adler realizes the woman he’s falling for is none other than the CEO of the firm he needs to take down, he has to make a choice. Does he take care of the woman he’s falling in love with or the business he’s worked a lifetime to build?

Z: A Demonica Novella by Larissa Ione
Zhubaal has spent decades searching for the angel he loved and lost nearly a century ago. Not even her death can keep him from trying to find her. But as time passes, he’s losing hope… As an emim, Vex has always felt like a second-class citizen. But if she manages to secure a deal with the Grim Reaper she will have earned her place in the world. The only obstacle in the way of her plan is a sexy hardass called Z. Soon it becomes clear that they have a powerful connection rooted in the past…

FALLING UNDER YOU: A Fixed Trilogy Novella by Laurelin Paige
Norma Anders has always prided herself on her intelligence and determination. She climbed out of poverty, put herself through school and is now a chief financial advisor at Pierce Industries. She’s certainly a woman who won’t be topped. Not in business anyway. But she’s pretty sure she’d like to be topped in the bedroom. Unfortunately most men see independence and ambition in a woman and they run. Then the most unlikely candidate steps up. Boyd, her much-too-young and oh-so-hot assistant surprises her one night with bold suggestions and an authoritative demeanor he’s never shown her in the office.

CRAVING HIS COMMAND: A Doms of Genesis Novella by Jenna Jacob
Mercy O’Connor—known as Symoné at Club Genesis—craves the chance to experience true surrender. The only problem is, she’s set her sights on sexy, commanding Sir Justice, who studies her with his dissecting, arousing stare…but never offers to show her his ropes. If Kellan Graham let himself believe in love at first sight, Symoné would own his heart. After having his life ripped apart, he’s spent years inventing ways to resist simple lust, but each time this beautiful submissive turns her pleading eyes to him, she ignites a complicated conflagration of desire Kellan can’t fight.

AMERICAN QUEEN by Sierra Simone
It starts with a stolen kiss under an English sky, and it ends with a walk down the aisle. It starts with the President sending his best friend to woo me on his behalf, and it ends with my heart split in two. It starts with buried secrets and dangerous desires…and ends with the three of us bound together with a hateful love sharper than any barbed wire.

Every Dark Nights tale is breathtakingly sexy and magically romantic.

I was totally excited when I saw that this bundle was being released, first because it was from the 1001 Dark Nights franchise. I can’t begin to tell you how many of their novellas I have purchased over the years since the concept was introduced. So many of my favorite authors have written stories for them…Cherise Sinclair, Lexi Blake, Jenna Jacob, Lara Adrian, Shayla Black, and a whole bunch more.

2 of my favorites are in this very bundle, so I had to have this! Lexi Blake’s Masters and Mercenaries novella, Devoted and Jenna Jacob’s Doms of Genesis novella, Craving His Command.

Rough Rhythm by Tessa Bailey was a 3 star read for me. While I liked James, I had some issues with the heroine and her constant negative behavior. Maybe it’s because I’m a brat? But it was a bit much.

Z a Demonica Novella by Larissa Ione was a definite 5 star and was just as dark and juicy as the rest of her Demonica series!

Falling Under You by Laurelin Paige. The oh so hot and dominant younger assistant meets the older boss woman who craves submission in the bedroom? Right up my alley and gets 4.5 stars!

American Queen by Sierra Simone is a new author for me, but a president, his bestie and a woman they woo? Hot menage! This was a solid 4 stars!

This brings us to Lexi’s Devoted. LOVED IT! Take 2 company owners, both up against each other. But one is a dom who is determined to find out if his trainee sub, Amy Slaten, is playing him for her company’s sake, or is she really the sassy subbie she appears to be. But Amy has no clue that the dom she’s been falling for is really the CEO of the company set to take her over. So what really happens? So much hotness!

Last, but certainly not least comes Craving His Command, a Doms of Genesis novella and one of my favorites in the series. It is one of the few that are written in third person. (sorry Jenna <g>) I’m not a huge fan of first person, so though I LOVE this series, this one is a huge favorite of mine. Plus, I love Sir Justice and anything that has Kerr getting a hurt on gives me a happy feeling.

Overall, this is one of the best compilations that 1001 Dark Nights has put together, though I love them all!

5 Super Sexy Summer Stars!

About the 1001 Dark Nights: Bundle Ten Authors-

Tessa Bailey Tessa Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans and laptop, driving cross-country to New York City in under four days.

Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention.

She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband of eight years and four-year-old daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.

Lexi Blake – New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Lexi Blake lives in North Texas with her husband and three kids. She began writing at a young age concentrating on plays and journalism. Larissa Ione – Larissa Ione is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. An Air Force veteran, she traded in a career as a meteorologist to pursue her passion of writing. When she isn’t reading or writing sexy stories, she’s probably singing, watching Game of Thrones and the Walking Dead, or dreaming of Michael Fassbender. She’s also a proud member of Mensa International though she doesn’t do anything with the organization except use it as material for her bio.

Jenna Jacob – USA Today bestselling and award winning author Jenna Jacob lives out her happily-ever-after in Kansas with her Alpha husband, adult children, and animal babies. When she’s not pounding the keyboard she’s likely riding a Harley, camping and fishing, reading, or cooking. Dubbed the “Goddess of Gravy” by Lexi Blake, Jenna enjoys tantalizing the taste buds of family and friends with her famous fried chicken dinner.

But don’t let her conventional innocence fool you. Jenna has been involved in the BDSM lifestyle for over twenty years. With experience and knowledge she delves deep into the emotional psyche of strong Dominants and sassy submissives with her Doms of Genesis series and The Doms of Her Life series (co-authored with Shayla Black and Isabella LaPearl).

Her works have been called: savagely beautiful, captivating, and emotionally riveting.

A hopeless romantic, Jenna paints a softer picture with her contemporary romance: Sky Of Dreams. A lover of life and laughter, she sets her zany sense of humor free in the romantic comedies: Sin On A Stick and Wet Dream.

Undone is the last of the Uninhibited trilogy by Lauren Hawkeye. It’s kind of a bummer that it’s over because I was really getting into the story. I’m not usually a fan of these short, cliffy-ridden, serials, but this one ended up being really good! I’m betting it will all be one short story soon enough. (still too short!)

I’m a big Lauren hawkeye fan, so I was reading this no matter what. When we last left Cari and Jasper, they had just had some 3-way fun with Jackson. But were called back to town when their favorite developer, Daly, had been found beaten in her very trashed room.

The story picks up right from there, and they have to deal with the sheriff. They also get a bit of information from Daly. (This was where I figured out who the bad person was, and no…I’m not telling!) From here, I’m going to stop, there’s luckily more lovely interaction between Cari and Jasper, as well as a delightfully action-packed finish in which we find out whom our psycho stalker is. Such fun! 5 Whole stars of it!

About Lauren Hawkeye

Lauren Hawkeye/ Lauren Jameson never imagined that she’d wind up telling stories for a living… though when she looks back, it’s easy to see that she’s the only one who is surprised. Always “the kid who read all the time”, Lauren made up stories about her favorite characters once she’d finished a book… and once spent an entire year narrating her own life internally. No, really. But where she was just plain odd before publication, now she can at least claim to have an artistic temperament.

Lauren lives in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, Canada with her husband, toddler, pit bull and idiot cat, though they do not live in an igloo, nor do they drive a dogsled. In her nonexistent spare time Lauren can be found knitting (her husband claims that her snobby yarn collection is exorbitant), reading anything she can get her hands on, or sweating her way through spin class. She loves to hear from her readers!

Eyes On You (Blasphemy) by Laura Kaye

From New York Times Bestselling author Laura Kaye, comes EYES ON YOU, a new novella in her Blasphemy Series, brought to you by 1,001 Dark Nights! Be sure to grab your copy today!

About EYES ON YOU (Blasphemy #3):

She wants to explore her true desires, and he wants to watch…

When a sexy stranger asks Wolf Henrikson to rescue her from a bad date, he never expected to want the woman for himself. But their playful conversation turns into a scorching one-night stand that reveals the shy beauty gets off on the idea of being seen, even if she’s a little scared of it, too. And Wolf loves to watch.

In the wake of discovering her fiancé’s infidelity, florist Olivia Foster never expected to find someone who not only understood her wildest, darkest fantasies, but would bring them to life. As Wolf introduces her to his world at the play club, Blasphemy, Liv finds herself tempted to explore submission and exhibitionism with the hard-bodied Dom even as she’s scared to trust again.

But Wolf is a master of getting what he wants—and he’s got his eyes set on her…

Eyes On You is the next book in Laura Kaye’s delicious Blasphemy series, about the 12 Masters of the Blasphemy BDSM club, a restored church that has been turned into a lush playground for the kink minded and the 12 masters that own it.

This book is about Master Wolf Henrickson, and like with every book, he has a certain kink, and his is voyeurism and exhibitionism. He is getting tired of the same old club life that really isn’t bringing him satisfaction. Not until he meets florist Liz Forester. Liz is on the worst date of her life with the biggest jerk in town. Wolf just happens to be there to rescue Liz from her date from the dark side. He quickly finds out that Liz shares his love of watching and being watched. They spend the weekend having wild sex in some crazy places. (Rooftop pool anyone?) She also finds out he’s a dominant at Blasphemy. She’s most definitely interested. Her ex shamed her for her desires, now she’s found someone who accepts her for who she is.

I loved this book! This is part of the 1001 Dark Nights Series, (Which I also love!) I thought that Wolf and Liv were a great couple and I would have been happy if there were more written, but no matter how long the book, the series is just the best and Laura knows her BDSM!
